S. Andrew Granade is an assistant professor of musicology at the University of Missouri–Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance.  As a musicologist, Granade’s research focuses on the reception and perception of music in a variety of forms and genres.  Currently he is at work on a book exploring the impact of the hobo persona on Harry Partch’s life, work, and reception, as well as the issues of exoticism that arise from it.  He has presented his research throughout the United States, China, and England, and his work on Harry Partch has been supported by the American Musicological Society through is AMS-50 fellowship.  As a pianist, Dr. Granade focuses on contemporary music in all its guises, especially that of modern American composers, and has performed as soloist and collaborative pianist throughout the Southern United States.
